Track & Field

Practices & Competitions

Track & Field Information
Track & Field is an individual and team sport. Athletes can compete in up to three events, usually:


  • One track event 
  • One relay event (if able)
  • One field event


Wheelchair users can compete in one wheelchair track event and one individual walking/assisted race. 


Track events include wheelchair races, assisted races, walking races, and running races of varying distances. 


Field events include multiple throwing events and multiple jumping events. 


If you are new to track & field, the most appropriate events for the athlete will be determined at the first few practices.


Please review the information guide below to familiarize yourself with the events you may want to compete in.


Special Olympics Track & Field Sport Information


Practices 

Track & Field practices are held in Georgetown on Saturday mornings from 10:30am-12:30pm and begin in February.


Practices will be held weekly until the week before the Area competition.


For security reasons, the practice location will be announced by the coach two weeks prior to the start and sent to you via email after sign ups close.


Competitions

Area (regional) competition information can be found here on the Area 13 calendar and is typically in April. 


If you do not see the date listed, it will be published closer to the competition date. 


State competition, named Summer Games, is held after Area competition and rotates locations around Texas. 


State competition is an optional competition. 


You can find information on state competition on the SOTX website. 


Uniforms

Athletes will need to wear an official CenTex Rockets non-collared shirt for the Area and State competitions.

Sign up

Sign-ups will open four months prior to Area competitions.


Deadline for this sport sign up will be three weeks prior to the first practice.
